YACHT REGISTRATION IN MARSHALL ISLANDS

Since 2021 Baraccuda Maritime & Shipping Legal Services  are accepted as the qualified intermediaries of the official Marshall Islands International Registries Inc.

We, therefore, provide yacht registration services in Marshall Islands in close cooperation with the Marshall Islands Registry. 

In Marshall Islands it is possible to register - private yachts, limited charter private yachts, commercial yachts as well as passenger yachts. 

The yacht owners are free to choose between two home ports - Bikini or jaluit. 

Marshall Islands Ownership of the yacht: Yachts registered in Marshall Islands must be through a Marshall Islands company either corporation, limited or general partnership, limited liability company or qualified foreign maritime entity.

Therefore, first step to yacht registration is to register a legal entity in Marshall Islands, and then proceed with the yacht registration.

I. MARSHAL ISLANDS PRIVATE YACHTS

Marshall Islands Private Yachts of Less than 24m

Private yachts that are 12m or more but less than 24 in LOA which are under 20 years of age no longer require to undergo a pre-registration inspection unless required so by the Marshall Islands Registry. 

To register a private yacht, registration documentation will have to be prepared. 

II. COMMERCIAL YACHTS

Marshall Islands Commercial Yachts

A commercial yacht is any yacht engaged in trade, commerce, or charter and carries less than 12 passengers. The registration of commercial yacht is limited to length of 24 m. 

All commercial yachts will have to undertake complianc verification to comply with the requirements of Marshall Islands requirements.

Necessary documents to register commercial yacht in Marshall Islands:

• Declaration of Intent to Maintain Commercial Compliance.
• Application for Minimum Safe Manning Certificate – Yacht.
• Application for Ship Radio Station License within 90 days of registration.
• Continuous Synopsis Record (CSR) Amendment forms to be submitted for yachts over 500 GT.
• Under the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006), a Maritime Labour Certificate is mandatory for commercial yachts of 500 GT or more.
• While MLC, 2006 certification is not mandatory for commercial yachts under 500 GT, any commercial yacht may be subject to inspection to verify compliance with MLC, 2006; thus, certification is recommended.
• Confirmation of Class issued by a Classification Society.
• A Commercial Yacht Compliance Certificate (CYCC) issued by an AR.
• Copy of Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) Conformance Test Report for all commercial yachts 300 GT and over.

III. YACHT CHARTERS

Marshall Islands Private Yacht Limited Charter (PYLC)

Is a type of registration offered to private yachts in more than 18 m length and less than 50GT, which has compliance certificate allowing the yacht to be engaged in limited chartering for no more than 84 days per calendary year, and which cannot carry more than 12 passengers.

The programme is not available in areas where full compliance is required for charter. 

Documents to apply for PYLC:

• Declaration of Private Use with Intent to Engage in Limited Charter.
• Application for Minimum Safe Manning Certificate – Yacht.
• A PYLC Compliance Certificate (PYLCCC) issued by an Marshall Islands.
• Copy of Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) Conformance Test Report for all PYLCs that are Category 0 or Category 1, and are 300 GT and over.

Inspection requirements for PYLC:

All vessels that want to apply for PYLC will have to undertake compliance verification regardless of their tonnage or age.

IV. YACHTS ENGAGED IN TRADE

Marshall Islands Yacht Engaged in Trade (YET)

Applicable for private yachts of 24 m or more in load line length. YET is authorized to charter for up to 84 days per calendar year in EU water (limited to French and Monegasque waters) and is limited to 12 passengers. 

A Marshall Islands YET will have to comply with all Marshall Islands legislation as well as international legislation - MLC 2006, SOLAS, Marpol, ISM, ISPS.

Documents to apply for YET

• Declaration of Private Use with Intent to Request a Temporary Certificate of Registry for Yacht Engaged in Trade.
• Application for Minimum Safe Manning Certificate – Yacht.
• Application for Ship Radio Station License within 90 days of registration. Continuous Synopsis Record (CSR) Amendment forms to be submitted for yachts over 500 GT.
• Confirmation of Class issued by a Classification Society. A YET Compliance Certificate (YETCC) issued by an AR.
• Copy of LRIT Conformance Test Report for all commercial yachts 300 GT and over.

Inspection requirements for YET:

All vessels that want to apply for PYLC will have to undertake compliance verification regardless of their tonnage or age.

V. PASSENGER YACHTS

Marshall Islands Passenger Yachts

Registration as passenger yacht in Marshall Islands is possible for any yacht which is certified to carry more than 12 but not more than 36 passengers. 

Required Documents to register as Passenger Yacht in Marshall Islands:

• Declaration of Intent to Maintain Passenger Yacht  Compliance.
• Application for Minimum Safe Manning Certificate – Yacht.
• Application for Ship Radio Station License within 90 days of registration.
• Continuous Synopsis Record (CSR) Amendment forms.
• Under the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006), a Maritime Labour Certificate is mandatory.
• Confirmation of Class issued by a Classification Society.
• A PAXY Compliance Certificate (PAXYCC) issued by an AR.
• Copy of Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) Conformance Test Report for all PAXYs.

Inspection requirements for Passenger Yacht in Marshall Islands:

All vessels that want to apply for Passenger Yacht status will have to undertake compliance verification regardless of their tonnage or age.

Please note that yachts can be registered in Marshall Islands completely remotely, no local presence of the yacht is required at any stage.
